Namibia the land of mystery

By Skyler Cheever

I am a country that is improving in government that will save future generations.

I wonder if my country will grow economically that will save money that will give my country food.

I hear the waves crashing along the Atlantic coastline.

I see the sands of the Kalahari shining off the rays of the sun.

I want my country to come full circle so they will live a happy life.

I am a country that is improving in government that will save future generations.

I feel the hunger of my people as they search for food.

I touch the tropical forests growing tall and strong.

I smell the Orange River flowing peacefully by.

I worry that my country will starve because of lack of food.

I cry that the people will save the land for times to come.

I am a country that is improving in government that will save future generations.

I understand the true power of the sun beating down upon the earth.

I say that my people will survive and progress in the new world.

I dream that we will improve and peace will be among us.

I try to help my people eat again to save my civilization.

I hope the wildlife will prosper to a point were Africa isn’t hungry.

I am Namibia.

Artist Statement

By Skyler Cheever

This is my mask I made it because it represents my country. The feathers stand for my countries flag colors [blue, red, yellow, and, green] except the black feather stands for the people that died in the wars we have had. The feathers are on the forehead because they are at the highest center of attention. The red on the mask stands for the many wars we have had and the are on the side of the head because they are set aside , we had our independence on march 21, 1990 the brown and green stand for the climate the brown stand for the namib desert the oldest desert in the world. The people don’t think that the desert is a big symbol but a small one. The green stands for the tropical forests that cover half of my country it sits on the top of the forehead because the people need that. The yellow circle stands for their sun it is on the top of the forehead because it is so powerful. My mask is a reminder that I represent Namibia.

With Every Breath I Take

By Maura Romano

I am a tranquil country that is protected with every breath I take.

I wonder if the rain will slip from the clouds ending the drought.

I hear the drag of my people’s feet, as they walk to work in the field.

I see the bright blue sky welcoming me each morning.

I want the oil that is being sent across the sea.

I am a tranquil country that is protected with every breath I take.

I feel happy for the way my country has developed.

I touch the dry cracked ground of the Namib Desert.

I smell the wet humid air of the rainforest.

I cry the tears of joy when another life is born.

I am a tranquil country that is protected with every breath I take.

I understand the needs of my people.

I say that we can keep the resources we have!

I try to keep the jobs my community requires.

I hope that one day I will be known for something epic.

I am Namibia.

From the great Namib Desert to the small villages Namibia has it all. Their flag was placed on the forehead because it is the highest place on the body. All over there are spots of the most valued animal of Namibia. It is the cheetah. The people in the middle are the support of this realm. The palm tree on the lower right cheek is there because the cheeks are considered sacred and beautiful, just like this tree. The brown mark on the chin is the Namib Desert because it goes from North to South. The blue represents the rivers and lakes like the Kunene River and Lake Otjitoko. Namibia has everything. It is a peaceful and very wonderful country.
